DERMACOL improved the quality of dispatching by deploying a WMS system

Dermacol's Czech cosmetics have their origins in the Barrandov Film Studios in Prague in the early 1960s. Since then, Dermacol products have spread from markets in Central Europe to the United States, Canada, Australia and the Middle East. All these foreign orders are shipped from Dermacol's warehouse in Brno, where the products are also exported into the hands of foreign buyers and e-shop customers.

Situation before the WMS solution was implemented

Originally, this warehouse worked with a pick list printed from the information system, which contained items for dispatch. However, even for experienced warehouse staff, it was difficult to keep track of the products accurately and errors occurred quite often.
The warehouse then had to deal with the same problem during inventories. Although the products were written down, it was often not possible to stack them so that they were together. During checks, partial inventories and audits it was difficult to trace some products.

Solution

  • Thorough analysis of warehouse processes.
  • Implementation of the Accellos One Warehouse Management System (WMS).
  • Optimisation of warehouse processes, including batch tracking and expiry tracking.
  • Configuration of the system in terms of special warehouse conditions for cosmetics, such as maintaining the correct temperature, humidity and cleanliness of the warehouse.
  • Monitoring the efficiency of individual workers.
  • Complete marking of warehouse locations in accordance with the analysis, thereby increasing the visibility of the warehouse.

Implementation

  • The implementation of the system took 1 month.
  • The system uses barcodes according to the GS1 standard, which makes it easier to work with goods.
  • In all these processes, the warehouse handler works with a mobile terminal that is equipped with a scanner.

RESULT THROUGH THE EYES OF THE CUSTOMER

"For many products having one batch after cooking the mass, we further mark differently the individual filling into packaging and there is so-called partial filling. This is then divided into individual packs and the products have serial numbers in addition to the batch. The advantage of using a controlled warehouse system is that it can work with this data and tracking down products even with complex batches is possible and, above all, very fast. Another advantage is that I can reward the warehouse staff according to the data in the system. In the system, it is also possible to see how many orders someone makes, how fast they work or don't work."
