KODYS SLOVAKIA® together with partner SEWIO introduces a customizable RTLS platform based on ultra-wideband wireless technology.

RTLS - Real Time Location System enables monitoring of object movement in a defined space and in real time. Most of the time, such monitoring happens inside buildings, halls, or other objects. In fact, it can be said that it complements the Global Positioning System (GPS) in its philosophy.

IS RTLS THE RIGHT TECHNOLOGY FOR YOU?

Due to the investment in installing the appropriate number of anchors, UWB RTLS technology is a suitable solution in applications where objects move frequently.

RTLS is therefore a platform mostly used in manufacturing, in-house logistics, warehouses, shops or sports activities.

The RTLS platform consists of active UWB Tags, UWB Anchors (Anchor) and an RTLS Server on which the positioning software runs. Customers can also optionally use the Sensmap visualization framework that runs on top of the platform.

Network architecture

For accurate tag position estimation, we recommend deploying anchors 15-20 meters apart. These conditions are based on the synchronization technology used, where the automatically selected anchors communicate with the RTLS server over a dedicated Ethernet cable network that must be installed before the anchors are deployed. The anchors can be powered via POE (Power over Ethernet) through a passive POE splitter. UWB packets coming from the anchors pass through the POE splitters and IP switches directly to the RTLS server.

Basic features of the Sewio RTLS platform

Easy setup and management

System setup is greatly simplified with the RTLS Manager web-based tool, which optimally sets up the system according to quality parameters obtained from the system installation environment. The RTLS platform requires fixed anchor coordinates stored on the RTLS server. This can be done via the drag & drop function integrated into the Sensmap framework, or directly in the RTLS Manager, by inserting the exact coordinates of each anchor. The anchors have their own IP addresses and therefore their configuration and management is clear and efficient. RTLS Manager allows you to check radio and IP configuration and remotely upload new settings in a user-friendly environment.

HTTP API interface

Position data is accessible via HTTP API providing a Websocket, or Rest interface for seamless integration. Using HTTP commands, the generated positional data can be easily transferred to a parent information or other system.

Accuracy

Based on active communication with customers integrating and installing the RTLS platform in various environments, the Sewio RTLS platform has been proven to achieve accuracy within half a meter. Accuracy of 20-30 centimeters can be achieved if the solution meets the condition of direct line-of-sight between UWB devices. In some solutions it may be necessary to increase the density of anchors, especially in narrow aisles or production halls. The RTLS platform also provides very stable position estimation due to the complex rules and filters applied to the algorithmic process.

HW Platform and SW Framework

Sewio RTLS is delivered as a HW platform containing UWB anchors, UWB tags and an RTLS server. Such RTLS platform represents a powerful solution for customers oriented to extend their products and services with positional data. The RTLS platform is also available with the Sensmap framework, which offers a web-based graphical user interface for visualizing object movements, tracking the performance of UWB devices along with building, floor, or zone management.
